The KTM is about 10 lbs lighter. And a clutch and six gears are part of how a kid eventually gets to an 85 and a 125 — a 65 teaches that and this doesn't. If that's the whole point for your family right now, a gas 65 makes sense.

How to check the fit
You ride a dirt bike with your feet on the pegs, so that's how to size one. Hold the bike steady, have him put his feet on the pegs and stand up, and see how it feels that way.
Seated, a beginner should be able to get both sets of tippy-toes down — ideally one flat foot. That's all the ground contact he needs to feel confident, and the adjustable power means the bike meets him where he is while he grows into the rest.

Can he race it?
The SX-E8 is AMA-certified for the 65cc class, and the 2026 Australian Enduro National Championship in the 65 class was won on one. Rules still vary by series and club, so check with your local series before you enter — but this is a bike built to line up in the class.
How long does a charge last?
Up to 37.1 miles per pack, and a full charge takes 2–4 hours. Real range depends on the power setting, rider weight and terrain. With a second battery ($999) you swap in under a minute and keep riding while the first one charges.
How do I set it up for a beginner?
Download the RFN app, pair the bike, and lower top speed and throttle response before the first ride. Raise it a step at a time as he gets comfortable. Keep new riders in the lowest setting and fully geared up.
What maintenance does it need?
No premix, no carb, no air filter, no top-end rebuilds. Chain and sprockets, tires, brake pads, and battery care: use the charger it came with, store it around half charged over winter, and keep it out of a freezing garage.
